Lawrence Artists & Makers: Assets for Artists wants to work with you!
Assets for Artists is thrilled to announce our second year of programming in Lawrence, MA, with grants up to $4,000! We’re excited about the growing creative community in Lawrence, and our programs offer professional development resources and seed grants to artists interested in strengthening the financial sustainability of their creative practice. With lead support from the Surdna Foundation, we are excited to enroll a new cohort of Lawrence-based artists (or artists committed to re-locating to Lawrence) who are looking to give their creative practice a boost.
We’ve teamed up again with Lawrence Community Works to combine LCW’s focus on asset-building and community organizing with A4A’s expertise in artist services. That’s some synergy!
Apply by October 17, 2016 to join a network of artists across New England who have been growing their artistic careers with the help of A4A since 2008. Artists at all income levels are encouraged to apply.

Matched Savings Program
Assets for Artists’ matched savings program is an innovative support model that helps artists strengthen their creative practice and grow its long-term sustainability. Since 2008, Assets for Artists has served over 250 artists across the Northeast.
Artists selected for our 2016 Lawrence Matched Savings Program will receive:
A “matched savings” grant that serves as working capital to be invested in the artist’s creative practice. Participants are provided with grants of $1,000 to $4,000 to match $1,000 to $2,000 of the artist’s own savings, and the combined amount is used by the artist toward implementing their business/career plan.
Free professional development services, including workshops on financial management and business planning.
Free one-on-one coaching in the development of the artist’s business/career plan.
Artists and creative entrepreneurs in all disciplines and financial circumstances are welcome to apply!
If you’re an artist/maker motivated to improve your financial & business management skills and to make investments aimed at growing your creative practice, we’d love to hear from you.
To be eligible for our Lawrence program, you must have a home or studio address in Lawrence, MA, or be committed to re-locating to Lawrence within the next 12 months.
|“This has been a wonderful chance for me to learn about financial literacy, build savings habits, and expand my business. The classes were so helpful and informative, and the group dynamic was very supportive.” – Liz Lawrence, Lowell-based musician|
|“I never in my wildest dreams expected a financial planning workshop to be so stimulating, informative and just plain fun. I especially appreciated the perspective that what we’re talking about is how to continue our creative practice into our 80s… not just planning for the next project. That was such a great affirmation of myself and my life as an artist. Soul food and financial tools. What a great menu you offered. I’m looking forward to our next session. Thanks for the opportunity to participate in this project!” – Margot Stage, Lowell-based fiber artist|
Professional Development Workshops
Our trainings are geared to help artists achieve more financial sustainability for their creative practice. This fall, we’re offering three expert-led workshops to help artists in all disciplines boost their careers. Apply to participate in one, two, or all three!
(Lawrence artists are welcome to apply to any of these sessions, not just the ones happening in Lawrence.)
