The Mayor’s Office of Arts & Culture in Boston — in partnership with MASS MoCA and with lead funding from the Boston Cultural Council, Massachusetts Cultural Council, and Massachusetts Growth Capital Corporation — is thrilled to announce a new opportunity for artists in all disciplines in Boston.
Since 2008, MASS MoCA’s acclaimed Assets for Artists program has provided high-caliber financial and business training to more than 500 artists throughout Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Maine, and New York, while leveraging over $500,000 in capital to grow these artists’ creative businesses. In 2016-2017, the City of Boston is expanding this opportunity for Boston artists by providing dedicated funding for 10 matched savings grants (from $1,000 – $2,000 each) for Boston-based artists, and financial and business workshops to strengthen the professional skills of those 10 artists and others.
Artists are invited to apply by September 30 to join the network of artists who are growing their creative businesses with the help of Assets for Artists.

Matched Savings Program
The MASS MoCA / Assets for Artists matched savings program is an innovative support model that helps artists strengthen their creative practice and grow its long-term sustainability. Since 2008, MASS MoCA and its partners have served hundreds of artists across the Northeast through the Assets for Artists program.
Artists selected for the 2016-2017 Boston Matched Savings Program will receive:
A “matched savings” grant that serves as working capital to be invested in the artist’s plan to strengthen their creative practice. Participants are provided with grants of $1,000 or $2,000 (depending on each artist’s financial circumstances) to match a corresponding amount of savings, and the combined amount is used by the artist toward implementing their entrepreneurial plans.
Free professional development services, including workshops in Boston on financial management and business/career planning.
Free one-on-one coaching in the development of the artist’s business/career plan.
“This grant and its process was deeply changing, even transformative, and it came at just the right time for me.”
– Anne Lilly, Boston-based sculptor
