Assets for Artists — a collaborative program providing a range of support services for creative entrepreneurs — is administered by MASS MoCA, the Midas Collaborative and Arthome, in cooperation with many local partners.
Since 2008, Assets for Artists has piloted an innovative matched savings grant program and financial and business training opportunities for low- to moderate-income artists. Initially launched in Berkshire County, Assets for Artists broadened its scope in 2011 to provide opportunities to artists throughout Massachusetts, with further expansion in 2012-2013 into Portland, Maine; New York City; and Rhode Island. A4A will enroll its first Connecticut artists in 2016.
By meeting savings goals and by completing the required trainings, participating artists receive grant funds as a savings match for “working capital” to invest in their artistic business. Our goal is to help A4A participants achieve financial stability and lasting entrepreneurial success.
In 2014, Assets for Artists expanded its programming to include free professional development trainings for artists throughout Massachusetts. In 2015, A4A announced the Studios at MASS MoCA, a professional development residency program set in the creative heart of the Berkshires. Assets for Artists is also engaged in creative place-making work in several Massachusetts communities, including Lawrence, Holyoke, and our home city of North Adams, MA.
