Colleen Gilmartin is a furniture designer and restorer from Tiverton, Rhode Island. Colleen is the creative force behind Farmhill Furniture, which she started when living in San Francisco, California. Combining her appreciation and knowledge of vintage furniture with her artistic eye, Colleen began restoring vintage furniture, hand painting each piece with careful thought and attention.
Moving from hobby to entrepreneurial endeavor, Colleen expanded her reach and skill of buying vintage and rudimentary furniture. Quickly, she developed a sound eye for quality and craftsmanship. She supplemented her hands-on experience with various classes, an associate degree from San Francisco State University, and a stash of books and magazines on furniture history, art and design.
Colleen restores vintage pieces to their former glory. Rescuing and reviving vintage furniture involves cleansing, prepping and finishing each piece by hand. Colleen strives to run an environmentally sustainable business using eco-friendly paint and a natural, hand-rubbed wax finish — she even makes her own all-natural chalk paint!
