Hello Assets for Artists friends!
As 2014 winds down, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on the past year, and also encourage you to make a year-end donation (any amount makes a difference) to help us continue and expand this work and show foundations and government funders how much this program is valued by artists and their advocates.
We had some amazing achievements in 2014:
Over 50 new artists joined our nationally renowned matched savings program. (See the work of some of those artists in the above graphic!) Since our launch in 2008, we’ve now leveraged over $600,000 in savings and matching funds for artists to invest in growing their creative businesses.
We held our 50th financial and business training workshop for artist-entrepreneurs, giving them practical strategies for financial and creative success.
We asked the business development funders at the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Massachusetts Growth Capital Corporation – which had never previously made grants to support programs for creative entrepreneurs – to support our work, and they actually said yes, to the tune of nearly $100,000! This is a testament to the track record we’ve built.
We also launched an experimental new initiative dubbed the “North Adams Project,” aimed at using our set of services to attract new artists to re-locate to our hometown – North Adams, MA. As a result of that work, we’ve now got 5 terrific new artists (and counting) who have recently moved to North Adams and are helping to make it one of the great art towns in America. We consider that a huge success, and plan to roll out a Phase 2 of the North Adams Project in 2015.
Year after year, our program has grown stronger and more dynamic. Unlike many organizations serving artists, we have never charged fees to the artists who participate in our workshops or apply for our grants, so we depend on donations.
Please consider making a tax-deductible year-end donation to support Assets for Artists! Even just $10 or $20 will make a strong statement to other potential funders about how much artists and their supporters appreciate this program. Help us continue growing and demonstrating this model, so that more artists can benefit.
To donate, make out your check to “MASS MoCA,” and write “Assets for Artists” in the comment line to direct your gift to MASS MoCA’s Assets for Artists project. Mail your check to MASS MoCA, 1040 MASS MoCA Way, North Adams MA 01247. You can also give online, but be sure to email Briana (email@example.com) to let us know that your donation is intended to support Assets for Artists.
Thank you again! And best wishes for the holiday season.
– Blair, Briana, and Emily (the Assets for Artists team)
