Katy Rubin is the Founding Artistic Director of Theatre of the Oppressed NYC. Additionally, Katy is a Theatre of the Oppressed practitioner, teaching artist, actor, and circus performer. Katy trained in Rio de Janeiro with Augusto Boal, creator of the Theatre of the Oppressed methodology, before bringing this form of “popular theatre” to NYC in 2010.
Katy is also a teaching artist with several NYC arts-education organizations: Urban Arts Partnership, Theatre Development Fund, Sadie Nash Leadership Project, the Women’s Housing and Economic Development Corporation, and Creative Arts Team at City University of New York.
Katy received her BFA from Boston University School of Theatre and also Studied at the London Academy for Music and Dramatic Arts.
