Participants in the Irish Museum of Modern Art’s  Artist Residency Programme benefit from access to the Museum’s collection, exhibitions, community programs, talks and lectures. The program acts as a platform for international artists, curators, critical writers, and art professionals and their Irish counterparts to engage in dialogue and work alongside each other in the heart of Dublin.  Participation in the programs comes with free housing and studio space, organized opportunities to meet with local arts professionals, and a two-week showcase of new or previously made work. Open to both emerging and established art professionals, the residency includes a one room in a communal house and utilities such as internet,  heating, and electricity for 2 to 6 month stays.

The Artist’s Resource Trust (A.R.T) Fund awards grants from $1500 to $10,000  to mid-career or mature (aged 35 +) artists living in New England or Columbia or Northeast Dutchess Counties, NY. Applications are accepted from visual artists in the media of painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography or mixed media. In order to qualify, applicants must demonstrate financial need and have lived in the eligible areas for at least two years. Previous recipients of A.R.T grants may apply eight years after their last grant was awarded.

The Contemporary Artists Center, a Berkshires non-profit organization, opened up its Woodside campus to artist residencies in 2009. The residency program is geared towards emerging and early career contemporary artists of diverse mediums and styles. Artists have 24 hour studio access and a shared living space; residents are encouraged to participate in weekly discussions and optional art outings.  Specialized facilities such as a video/sound lab, a woodshop, a fabric area, and printmaking equipment are available. Although the residency comes at a flat rate of $290/month, 95% of artists receive merit or financial awards up to full cost. The August 1st deadline is for residencies beginning between October 1 and December 31. Residencies can last as long as 6 months.

The Ruth and Harold Chenven Foundation annually gives  awards to individual artists and craftspersons living and working in the United States who are engaged in or planning a new project.  Grants of up to $1500 are decided by a jury of three artists or curators and approved by the Board of Directors. Each year between two and thirteen grants are offered. Film, video, and performance art are not accepted. Applications must be received by mail, postmarked by August 15th.

Urban Glass is accepting applications for two Windgate Established Artist Fellowships, designed to expose mid-career artists to a new medium and new techniques. Urban Glass supplies artists with the studio space, materials, technical support, and tools to experiment with glass. The studio residency lasts for 8 weeks during which the studio is available on a scheduled basis. While a $1500 stipend is included, the artist must organize his or her own room and board. In addition to the standard artist proposal and work samples, applicants are required to submit two letters of recommendation which must be received by the application deadline. Although recommendation letters may be delivered by email, all other application materials must be received by mail. Artists who have limited experience with glass are encouraged to apply.

Virginia Center for Creative Arts awards more than 300 residencies a year on its 400 acre estate to visual artists, composers, and writers. All residencies include a private bedroom, a private studio, and three meals a day. Thanks to a generous grant from the NEA, VCCA is offering a Social Media Fellowship to two artists who integrate social media platforms such as Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, and YouTube into their works. The Fellowship includes a $2,000 stipend and a fully paid for residency that must take place between October 1, 2012 and May 31, 2013. Finished works from the residency must be presented online and be fully accessible to the public in order to qualify as social media art that “frees [itself] from geographical and temporal restraints of galleries and museums.”

The Rhode Island Council on the Arts is offering a Professional Arts Development grant that matches funds between 250 and 750 dollars to RI residents. PAD grants address specific goals in an artist’s business plan unless the artist plans to use the grant to create a business plan. PAD grants may be used for expenses such as conference/workshop fees, marketing materials, exhibition fees, documentation of artwork, and certain types of travel  within the United States. A business or professional plan must be submitted with the application.

The Lanesboro Arts Center is accepting applications for two and four week residencies from emerging artists across all disciplines that are seeking to create new work. Between November and May, resident artists are provided with living and workspaces and are encouraged to interact with the Lanesboro community in exchange. Past recipients have held talks, classes, workshops, and concerts for Lanesboro residents, occasionally collaborating with and incorporating residents into their works. Up to 6 artists per year receive a $2,500 grant for four week residencies and a $1250 grant for two week residencies. The residency is funded by the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council.

The Boschen Fund for Artists supports emerging artists and artists in the midst of changing the direction of their work who have lived in the Berkshires for at least two years.  The Fund issues grants between $1,000 and $5,000 for the purpose of furthering the artist’s ability to create new work. The Boschen Fund strives to make the Berkshires a nurturing environment for artists by supporting the creation of new works and encouraging recipients to think about their futures as artists. Up to $30,000 dollars in grants are available for the upcoming year.
